The Un-met Hopes

It was billed as the football for hope 2010. After all for the first time, Federation Internationale de Football Association World Cup Football was being organised in Africa. However it didn't turn out to be "the hope" for many of the players hoping to make a mark amongst the deafening sounds of Vuvuzela. Lets pay homage to those who went there with some hope ( or no hope)but whose hopes were left shattered and bruised.

The first one to grab the limelights was Anelka. What a tehelka ! He didn't like Domenech, Domenech didn't like him too. The French fans and the French Football Federation didn't like all this at all. So it was a big circle of likes-dislikes and insults- apologies( the lack of it ). Meanwhile, many other French players have promised to come out with "the truth" and we would be waiting eagerly for it !

The Italians had come into the tournament as the defending champions. They were amongst the first to come ( with pride) and were also amongst the first to go out ( with shame) ! Their coach Lippy was dizzy. What happened? The group was considered to be so easy that some were of the opinion that even India would have managed to go to the next stage. But alas, Paraguay and Slovakia proved tough nuts for the Italians. By the way, the progress of Paragauay brought someone called Larissa Riquleme to the limelight, who has grabbed our minds since then !

There was also one loony fellow in the English camps whom we also know as Wayne Rooney. I guess he should change his name to When loony ! One never knows when he will come up with an act which will give him all the adverse publicity and give us all the "masala" news. He failed to perform for his team.England with all the big names of football went out without making a mark.

If there was one fellow who got lost in the Waka Waka, it was Kaka. For the first time in the last five odd years, he received a red card in a match. Though his team won that match eventually but it was a personal setback for Kaka. Till their match against the Oranje they had done almost everything correct, if not in the way they would have liked to. But all their strategies failed against the Dutch and suddenly their coach Dunga was the "Gunda" for the Brazilians. Melo did and act which will go down in the books as one of the most shameful of acts done on ground.

When Brazil has been mentioned can we leave behind the Argentines? Messi didn't mesmerise us the way we all were expecting from him. Though in some cases we must admit he was pretty unlucky not to have found the Jabulani enter into the nets. They were the best team till their match against Germany. That match showed us how mis-match they were against the Germans !

And at last some one who came so close yet so far. Klose came so close to winning the Golden Boot and also equalising the record of Ronaldo of 15 World Cup Goals and also to feature in his second World Cup Final. He displayed his brilliance and also his somersault in the matches. But one has to say, so Klose yet so Far.
