Keeping it Simple

We love Simple things.
Don't we?

Simple answers.
Simple reasons.
Simple explanations.
Simple exams.
Simple life.
Simple food.
Simple life-partners (seedhi-saadi/seedha-saada)
Simplicity.
etc. etc....

No matter how 'complex' world we may find ourselves in, we tend to crave for simple things.
There is one catch however.

We confuse 'being simple' with 'being truth/correct', and here in lies the fallacy.

We tend to forget that what is simple might not always be correct.
Often we accept simple explanations, if it is what we 'want' to believe, or if it is what we 'feel' is correct.

It often limits our ability to question the explanation/reason/answer/etc.etc.
It limits our ability to question the assumptions beneath the Question.

Why does Big Boss host the type of people it does in its show?
Simple Answer: Audience' demand.
Is it? Did the viewers ask for people with controversial (shady) past/present? Was there no one else for the show? Is is not because of the intention of making money by creating controversies?
Simple. Put the mantle on other's shoulders.

Why did Indo-China war happen?
Simple Answer: China is a rogue country. India wanted to be friends, China back-stabbed India.
Is that it? Did we commit no wrong? Could we have committed no wrong? Was it 100% the fault of Chinese?
Simple. Blame others for all problems.

Should India allow FDI in retail?
Simple Answer: No. 'They' will rob us of our jobs/money.
Is it? Does FDI offer NO advantage? 0% advantage? 100% evil? Will it not be beneficial to anyone? Will they create no jobs? Will they employ no Indians? Is the present system the BEST? BEST for all?
Simple. Create fear in minds: Foreign is evil.

Why has US become 'friends' to India in the last 15 years?
Simple Answer: Because US 'loves' India. US is a democracy and India is the largest democracy in the world .
Is that so? Was India not a democracy before that? Or did we become democratic suddenly in the last 15 years? Can it not be a strategic foreign policy choice which the US has made? Can it not be driven by US's interests? Is it driven solely by the 'love' for India?
Simple: State the obvious, hide everything else.

How important is Jan Lokpal?
Simple Answer: It is "the" answer to corruption. It will "uproot" "all" corruption in the country.
Will it? Is it some sort of magic wand? Do you agree with it's intent, or the content, or both? Can there be a possibility of agreeing with the intent of Lokpal but not with the content of Lokpal? Are you aware of all provisions of the Jan Lokpal Bill?
Simple: One cure for all evil. Jan Lokpal.

Who benefits from smaller states?
Simple Answer: The 'common man' of the state.
Do they? How does it benefit the 'common man'? Does it increase his income/happiness/quality of life? Or do businessmen, administrators, and politicians benefit more from it? Who gets the money/decides about the money which comes by the way of formation of smaller states?
Simple: Tag your benefits as the benefits of the majority (common man) and pretend that you care for them.

Why did I post this blog?
Simple Answer: I had nothing better to do.
You could be right, but is that all?
Simple: All sort of fools (read me) make this world. We better leave now !
